The Hills do not do mild.

A summer afternoon up here can push past 40 degrees, and a roof soaks that up all day. A winter morning can start in single digits, in a house that runs colder than anything down on the plain. One system is asked to handle both, year after year, and it only has to fail once for you to notice.

JTM looks after both halves of the year, and both halves of a business: the comfort of the people inside, and the cold that keeps the stock safe.

When it is 6 outside

Reverse-cycle split and ducted systems heat as well as cool. In a cold Hills winter that means one system doing both jobs, usually for far less to run than a bar heater or a fan heater.

Have it serviced before the first cold snap, not during it.

When it is 41 outside

A split system cools the rooms you use. Ducted cools the whole house from one unit. Evaporative suits our dry summer heat and uses far less electricity, but it needs the right installation and regular servicing to keep working properly.

If you live in a designated bush fire prone area, one rule is worth knowing: since 8 April 2016, new roof-mounted evaporative coolers on homes there need non-combustible covers. Mention it when you enquire so it is part of the conversation from the start. Read the WA Building Commission fact sheet.

Residential and commercial

Split systems for the rooms you use. Ducted systems for the whole house. Evaporative cooling for dry heat. We help you work out which suits the building, the budget and the way you live, then we install it and look after it.

Service and repair

Commercial refrigeration, cool rooms and freezers. A unit that drifts a few degrees warm costs you stock long before it fails, so we service them before that point and repair them when it has passed it.

Installations

New systems

Where the outdoor unit sits, how the pipework runs, how the condensate drains. Small decisions like these decide whether a system is quiet and trouble-free or a nuisance for years. New air conditioning and refrigeration systems, installed with those details in mind.

Fault finding

Warm air. Ice on the pipes. A strange noise. A unit that keeps tripping the switch. We find out what is actually wrong before anything gets replaced, so you pay to fix the fault, not to cover a guess.

Replacements

Old to new

Some systems are past saving. When yours is, we say so, show you why, and swap the old system for a new one. When it is not, we tell you that too. Upgrades to something more efficient are part of the job.

Also on the list: service and maintenance, repairs, system upgrades and energy efficient solutions.

5°C is the line.

Under the Australian Food Standards Code, food that needs refrigeration must be kept at 5°C or below. A cool room that is slowly losing ground is a business problem long before it is a breakdown.

JTM services and repairs commercial refrigeration, cool rooms and freezers. We work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. If something starts to struggle, ring in the morning and describe what it is doing. That is usually enough to start fault finding.

Call early if you notice any of these

  • The compressor runs almost constantly.
  • Ice is building on the evaporator or the pipes.
  • Door seals have gone soft or no longer close properly.
  • One shelf, or one corner, runs warmer than the rest.
  • Water on the floor, or a fan that sounds wrong.
  • The power bill has crept up and nobody can say why.

What you can hold us to.

Reliable service.

We tell you when we can get to you and we turn up when we said. An enquiry gets an answer, not silence.

Honest advice.

If a repair is the better value, we say repair. If the unit has had its day, we say that as well, and we explain why. You decide with the facts in front of you.

Quality workmanship.

Secure mounting, tidy pipework, correct drainage, and a system tested before we leave. We put our name on the work, and we are fully insured.

Questions people ask before they call.

Split, ducted or evaporative: which suits a Perth Hills home?

It depends on the building, how many rooms you actually use, and what you want from winter. A split system suits one or two spaces and is the usual choice for a lounge, a bedroom or an extension. Ducted suits whole-house comfort from a single system, and works best when the roof space and floor plan allow for it. Evaporative cooling suits our dry summer heat and uses far less electricity, but it only cools, so it does nothing for a cold winter morning. Describe your home in the quote form and we will point you to the one that fits.

Can one system cool in summer and heat in winter?

Yes. Reverse-cycle split and ducted air conditioners do both jobs. Evaporative coolers only cool, so if you want heating as well, a reverse-cycle system is the one to look at.

Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?

Often a repair is the better value, particularly on a newer system. Replacement starts to make sense when the unit is old, repairs are stacking up, or the cost of the fix is heading towards the price of a new system. We find the fault first, then give you both options in plain terms so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

How often should an air conditioner be serviced?

Once a year is the usual advice for a home system, ideally before summer. Filters need cleaning far more often, every few months in regular use. Dust, and ash during bush fire season, can load up filters and outdoor coils faster than you would expect in the Hills.

What should I have ready when I ask for a quote?

The make and model from the sticker on the unit, a photo of it if you can, the rooms or areas that matter, and what it is doing now. For a new install, a rough idea of the rooms involved and whether you want heating as well as cooling is plenty to start with.

Do you work on commercial refrigeration and cool rooms?

Yes. JTM services and repairs commercial refrigeration, cool rooms and freezers, and also installs and services air conditioning for commercial spaces.
